...sort of.
From www.superherotimes.com:
"No more impossible chase figures!
The biggest Marvel Legends news to come out of the Toy Biz showroom this year is not the lineups (though those are quite exciting), but the news on the future of chase figures!
Series 5, which is in stores now, will be the last series with an impossible-to-find chase figure (the Red Skull). From now on, the incentive figures will be paint variants, which won?t be exclusive to any store, but will be more rare than the regular figures. Toy Biz wouldn?t say how much more rare, but they did say that there will be enough in the assortment that all fans who want one, and look diligently for it, will be able to get one. The rumor going around the showroom was that there would be one variant paint figure for every three cases.
The chase figures for Marvel Legends series 6 will be Liefeld-style Cable (the standard figure is modern Cable), and Dark Phoenix. That?s right, you heard it here first ? regular Phoenix will not be a chase figure, and will be packed at least one per case.
Future variants will probably include a clear Vision, the blonde Black Widow, and the Classic Ghost Rider with a Johnny Blaze head.
While a few fans, and a few dealers, may be upset about the lack of impossible chase figures, I know that I was extremely pleased to hear this news, particularly since it means I?ll actually be able to get both versions of Phoenix, without paying hundreds on an auction site."

Street Worm posted that in a thread where I posted the pictures I found related to the ToyBiz Marvel figures.
I think it is great - not it isn't that they are no longer going to do chase figures, they are still going to basically be there, it is just they aren't going to be the only way to get the figure to complete the arc of characters.
i am still going to hunt for (and it will more than likely be just as hard to find them when they are released as the chases are now) Dark Phoenix, and I may go for the Clear Vision.
I am not even sure if I want to get Cable in the first place, so I am really not going to consider the paint variant.

How did they handle the gold Ironman in the first ML series? I seem to recall he was reasonably easy to find (at least in the US).

I have come across 4 of those, never seen any of the other chase figures (not counting the WalMart Stealth Iron Man and Thing in TrenchCoat) anywhere and have always had to resort either buying them from someone else on the board or eBay (gouge).
I think the reason I was able to find a numerous amount of Gold Iron Man figures was the chase figure phenom from ToyBiz had just begun and people didn't realize the amount of money they would go for. Now that some of them have gone for high $$$, even Red Skull is topping $60 before shipping, people are more likely to hoard them for later sells.
Hopefully the reported 1/3 case is something that will be able to be found rather more easily.

I have been fortunate when it comes to acquiring the chase figures. They have all came from one online shop where I do most of my toy shopping. They sent me a Goliath and a Doombot free of charge to show their gratitude for me being such a loyal customer. The gold Ironman and Red Skull they sold to me for the same price as the common figures so that was great too!
I think the one in three cases does sound promising but it still doesn't mean that I'd be able to walk into Toys R Us and find one. I mean Carnage is packed one per case, right? I'm not expecting to find one of those anytime soon.

Can you send me the info for the online store that you shop at relative to the Marvel Legends figues? I would b e interested to read up about that place (with my luck you are from Canada). I have had NO luck finding a online store that would sell the chase figures.
Envious of you having the Red Skull! That is the only one I am missing (well, except for he unmasked Wolverine, but that one was in the boxed set)

The unmasked wolverine is the biggest fubar that ToyBiz has done with the Chase figures. That one was packed so rare that those who MUST have all the versions will pay out the nose for. I think orignially that one was supposed to be packed 1 per 40 or so cases, but it has been FAR FAR rarer than that.
Atleast they put a slightly modified version of it in the boxed set. It isn't exactly the same head as the single packed version, but it is close enough to make me happy!
